[ how it works ]

How does solar power work and what makes it such a reliable source of renewable energy?

Once our solar installers in Devon and Cornwall have installed your new system, the PV cells on the solar panels will begin to work their magic. They absorb the sun’s natural light and turn it into a usable form of DC energy (Direct Current). This is directed to the inverter where it is converted into AC (Alternating Current). At this stage the clean energy generated by the panels can be used around the home or sent to a battery where it is stored until you need it.

If you are generating more power than you need, you can sell your excess energy back to the grid. Simply set up an SEG (Smart Export Guarantee) rate with your supplier and you will get paid a set amount per kWh exported. We recommend signing up with Octopus energy as they pay the highest rate at 15p per kWh, are one of the most ethical suppliers and have amazing customer service.

Electric vehicle chargers

The UK is moving towards a more electric future, with the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans set to end by 2035. As electric vehicles continue to grow in popularity, having a reliable and convenient way to charge at home is becoming increasingly important.

EV chargers can be installed independently, drawing electricity from the grid to charge your vehicle at home. Alternatively, if you already have solar panels, or are having a solar system installed by our team of expert solar installers, your EV charger can be integrated with your existing system. This allows you to use the renewable energy generated by your solar panels to help charge your vehicle, reducing your reliance on grid electricity.

As a Tesla Certified Installer, Key Solar is also qualified to install Tesla charging solutions, including the Tesla Wall Connector. Whether you’re looking for a standalone home EV charger or a fully integrated solar, battery and EV charging system, our team can design and install a solution tailored to your home and energy needs.
